Recognition
Jerusalem Mayor's Award for Volunteerism
2025 — In a moving ceremony held at the Jerusalem Theater, Tenufa Bakehila-Building Hope was presented with an award as Outstanding Aid Organization by Jerusalem’s Mayor, Moshe Leon. Tenufa was recognized alongside 11 other social organizations for their impactful work in supporting those in need.
The award was presented to Tenufa’s founder and director, Gabi Nachmani, who was later joined onstage by the organization’s dedicated team members and their families. The honor was in recognition of their tireless efforts to repairing the homes and lives of Jerusalem’s most vulnerable residents.
During the ceremony, the Mayor expressed his strong support for Tenufa’s mission. He commended the organization’s work and proposed that Tenufa double its annual number of renovated apartments in Jerusalem. In turn, he promised to double the city’s funding for the initiative, with its immense value to the city.
In his speech, the Mayor praised Tenufa’s efforts:
“I have seen up close your acts of kindness, your endless giving, and your concern for each and every individual. You are the light that warms the heart of Jerusalem, and I am very proud of your achievements. Your contribution to the community is invaluable, and you make it easier for all of us to face the challenges that lie ahead.”
