Every day, we meet individuals with disabilities who are struggling with isolation, frustration, and a sense of helplessness. We encounter cases such as a child with special needs who had to move into his parents’ bedroom because mold and leaks made his own room uninhabitable; a wheelchair-bound mother whose bathroom doorway was too narrow, forcing her family to lift her in and out—putting her at risk each time she bathed; or a visually impaired elderly man whose outdated, dim lighting made simple daily tasks almost impossible.
For many of these individuals, the cost of urgent home repairs is entirely out of reach—leaving them to live in dangerous and unbearable conditions.
More than one million people in Israel live with a disability. This includes physical, sensory, cognitive, and emotional disabilities. Among them are individuals with developmental disabilities, mental health challenges, veterans injured during military service, victims of terror, accident survivors, and those whose disabilities result from illness, birth defects, or aging.
All those served by Tenufa Bakehila are referred by municipal welfare departments. For people with disabilities and their families, living in unsafe or inaccessible housing is not just difficult—it is intolerable.
Our professional renovation teams transform unsafe living conditions into safe, dignified homes for individuals with disabilities. Renovations may include repairing crumbling walls and ceilings, addressing faulty or dangerous electrical and plumbing systems, widening doorways, replacing doors and lighting, fixing broken windows and tiles, clearing cluttered spaces, and installing grab bars, safety railings, and accessibility aids.
All work is done by Tenufa Bakehila’s trained, full-time staff—professionals who combine technical skill with deep empathy. As demand grows, the organization is continuously expanding its reach to serve more individuals and families facing complex housing challenges due to disability.
Through essential home repairs and the support of our in-house social worker, Tenufa Bakehila takes a holistic approach—promoting accessibility, easing daily burdens, and improving quality of life for people with disabilities and their loved ones.
